Liposuction is a surgical technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body. It is a method to remove focal areas of fatty tissue that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is often combined with other surgical techniques to tighten loose skin.
The best candidates for liposuction are individuals of relatively normal weight with excess fat in particular body areas. It is not a substitute for weight reduction.
Common areas treated include the love handles (flanks), thighs and abdomen.
Scarring
Scarring is minimal.
Anesthesia
The procedure is typically carried out under general anesthesia.
Procedure time
Procedure time depends on the areas treated.
Recovery
Recovery is 3-5 days. A compression garment is worn for 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise may resume at 4 weeks.
