Over time, pregnancy, weight loss and aging may cause loose skin and excess fat in the abdominal area. Pregnancy can also cause a woman’s abdominal muscles to separate in the midline (diastasis recti). Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. It is often combined with liposuction to improve the overall contour.
It is not a treatment for being overweight.
