Almost every woman has some differences between her breasts – also known as breast asymmetry. This may be related to the breast size, nipple position, or shape of the breast. If the degree of imbalance is significant enough, it may cause distress to a patient. It is usually advised to wait until the breasts are fully developed before addressing breast asymmetry.
The goals of surgical correction of breast asymmetry include balancing the breast shape and size. Both breasts are often addressed to create the best balance possible – breast augmentation, breast reduction and a breast lift are all techniques used to correct breast asymmetry.
It is important to note, however, that no surgical techniques can make breasts exactly the same.
