Ear surgery (otoplasty) or ‘ear pinning’ is a surgical procedure to reshape outstanding ears and improve their placement closer to the head.
Otoplasty is an insured service by OHIP until the age of 18 years.
The scars are well hidden behind the ears.
The procedure may be carried out under local or general anesthesia depending on the age of the patient.
Procedure time is approximately 2 hours.
Recovery time is typically 1-2 weeks and a headband is worn at night for 3 months. Vigorous exercise may resume at 6 weeks.
